London Fashion Week and Tate Modern marketing around London..

Online Promotions

The London based company MG Promotions who is promoting this event throughout their site including a description of what is about to happen.
There are also a lot of discount voucher websites with upto 25% off a standard entry ticket to the LFW event.

Having researched in depth for promotional vouchers for entry into the Tate Modern, it seems as though tickets are only available from the Tate Modern website starting at £14, with concessions available. Due to the nature of this event, booking tickets in advance is a must do, as it seems there is a large audience with interest in this event.

I have also found that Tate Modern has a members club.  For just £60 per year its members will get free private access to all exhibitions, exclusive access to its “Members rooms” they will receive a monthly subscription to the gallery’s magazine, along with exhibit listings for the future. For most members will be artists, art dealers or just simply have a passion for art, Tate Members will also have the privilege of exclusive events and early morning viewings. For Lichtenstein’s exhibit there is a private viewing time sheet listed on the website for members only access.

Marketing the Exhibition

Tate Modern, London

An extravagant Art gallery in the heart of  London housing the UK's collection of modern and contemporary art from 1900 to the present day and hosting special exhibitions and events.

Profound or simply effective, Lichtenstein knew how to make a canvas leap out at you. ****
Adrian Hamilton, The Independent
…at its best Lichtenstein’s work is sensational – his style may be controlled but the effect is vivid and seductive. ****
Ben Luke, The Evening Standard
Lichtenstein’s cool, dry wit retains its overtly uncomplicated eye-catching strength. But now the curators set out determinedly to show us something more.
Rachel Campbell-Johnston, The Times

As a well respected building, this exhibit is every art collectors dream. Through press releases on newspapers such as, The Times, The Evening Standard and The Independent which are commonly read by middle class people of London, which aims to target serious art collector/dealers to attend this exhibit.
Reading some of the content of his exhibit, The Guardian quoted that Lichtenstein will show his only video clip at the gallery.
This is a chance to see how exclusive his work was during his 50 year era.

An Insight into the Life of Roy Lichtenstein

Lichtenstein was a revolutionary artist, who started the pop art era alongside Andy Warhol in the 1960's. In 1966 he became the first American to exhibit at London’s Tate Gallery.

Here are some of his popular pieces listed on the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation which will also be shown at the exhibit

I am fortunate enough to find one example of the numerous billboard advertisements the Tate Modern show around the London underground stations.
Millions of people commute through London every year and a well advertised event like this one is going to get recognised straight away in the Uk's Capital city!

London Fashion Week

 LONDON FASHION WEEK!

One of the four highest profile fashion events in the world held. February Fashion Week in London. Milan, Paris and New York are the other big cities who also hold this event.

LFW generates an average of £100million in orders each year and it contributes to London's economy with a cool £20million with visitors from over 25 countries around the world.

  • Date(s): 15 February 2013 to 19 February 2013
  • Time: 09.00 - 19.00
  • Type: London Fashion Week
  • Location: Somerset House
  • Address: Somerset House, Strand, London WC2R 1L

London Fashion Week (LFW) is one of the highest profile fashion events in the world and one of the ‘big four’ international catwalk influencers. LFW puts London and British Fashion firmly on the global stage, generating orders in the region of £100m;  the event itself contributes £20 million to the London economy in terms of direct spend and attracts visitors from over 25 countries including US, France, Italy, Russia, Middle East, China and UAE.

London fashion week holds two major events in the year as well as two in paris.
London does february and september and Paris does january and March. These shows are exactly the same. but gives europeans a chance to view the latest looks!
This event gives every major and upcoming designer a chance to show off their new season collections for shop owners and people who have a major interest in fashion to browse and invest in for the spring collections.

This year is the year LFW makes the event popular for the younger population, "Brands not normally associated with catwalks and celebrity models are forming partnerships with London Fashion Week and British design talent to engage with a younger target audience." as quoted by marketing weekly.

During every show the featured designers and sponsors put together a free bag full of goodies. This is a great source of marketing as new brands give consumers a chance to try out their new products sometimes before they have even hit the shops!
An example of a goody bag from Francesca Marotta.

When searching London Fashion Week in Google, I found hundreds of articles within a 10 second load up.
I was faced with numerous newspaper and magazine articles covered with information about LFW's history and its upcoming launch. Many of articles were featured in high end newspapers and fashion magazines such as  Grazia , Vogue, Telegraph Newspaper, London Standard. as the reputation of London Fashion week is aimed at Middle class citizens.

Many of LFW 2013's Sponsors include: CanonVodafone and Kinder Bueno.

Noticeably Vodafone is the main sponsor for the event, after they signed a 3 year deal with the company to make the event more accessible to consumers rather than just shop traders. Vodafone is a suited sponsor of LFW because in its recent years, the company have gotten their customers involved with the company to give them a better experience with their brand. Vodafone does this to reward their most loyal customers to keep them coming back for more products. I think it is a great marketing opportunity to give customers unique prizes and once in a life time opportunities.
As quoted by the owner himself Alistair Guy " A Glamorous Thank You To You"

Vodafone "VIP" Customers will be offering exclusive prizes to its loyal customers through competitions throughout the year. A popular competition they offered was a chance to win £200 worth of Benefit Makeup.

Canon is a world leader in imaging products and solutions for the digital universe.

Being a user of Canon products myself, i know how important it is for photographer to get the million dollar image with their cameras.
I think Canon is a perfectly suited sponsor of London Fashion Week as they want to make sure the professional photographers who attend on behalf of magazines and newspapers have everything they need to capture the latest fashion trends and the technology is so advanced to make sure they can capture the most striking images possible ready to be published to thousands of fashion divas around the world.

This year, Canon had decided to run transport for photographers throughout the venue to make sure they didn't miss that all important shot. They also invited all guests and visitors to an exhibition space where the company's award winning range of professional EOS Digital Cameras and EF Lenses were available for trial.

This Year Ferrero have decided to sponsor London fashion week as they want to the audience to indulge a little in their lifestyle whilst indulging at the catwalk clothing lines. they carried out research on woman aged 25 to 35 and they found a link between the idea of fashion and a little chocolate indulgence that go well together.

All of this type of marketing builds a connection between the designers and their fans. being exclusive and creating a wider marketing range instead of just being available to high earners and shop owners. a diverse range in which young fashion apprentices can get involved is a huge achievement in giving out equal rights.

Although a range of older people who were around when he was alive will certainly enjoy it aswell as teenagers and children of today will also appreciate his work as his style is a fun to explore genre. making it a family day out.

Press Releases
I've found some of the articles on these sites.
Daily Mail
ITV
YouTube
There is also a Press Release listed on the Tate Modern Website, DACS (Design and Artists Copyright Society and a blog post about Liechtenstein's work at the tate modern.

DACS is an art equivalent to PRS for music. This society ensures artists get all the royalties they're entitled to. "We translate rights into revenues for artists and their heirs."

This in turn helps to sustain their practice and livelihood. We do this through our three rights management services: PaybackCopyright Licensing and the Artist’s Resale Right."

Lichtenstein's revolutionary work appears almost everywhere around the world and his participation in the new art alongside other big names in the industry known for their creative work like Andy Warhol.

"I'm never drawing the object itself; I'm only drawing a depiction of the object - a kind of crystallised symbol of it."Roy Lichtenstein
